Remember the kids' game, "Hot Potato?" You would stand in a circle and toss a (pretend) hot potato, as quickly as you could, to somebody else. Well, that's what the priests and governors, and other officials were doing with Paul, as he was too hot for them to handle! The Jews were determined to have him arrested, so they circulated a bunch of lies and heresay (none of which were true). Finally Felix, the governor, got tired of "sitting-on-the-fence" (as he had held Paul under "house arrest" for 2 years)--waiting for Paul to offer him some bride $$$ to release him, and sent him on to another official who finally sent him to Rome for sentencing.
Sorta sounds like our government and politicians of today doesn't it? A lot of talk, a bunch of lies, plenty of false accusations being tossed around, along with a few brides under the table!
None of this "moved" Paul; he remained steadfast in his faith and determined to complete the work the Lord had called him to do. He was "grounded and rooted" in love....love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He could say, as did Jesus, "IT IS FINISHED!" Soon he would be standing before the Lord in heaven above. And I'm sure the Lord lovingly said to him: "Well done, good and faithful servant....come, enter my joy!"
How 'bout you...how 'bout me? When we meet the Lord, face-to-face at eternity's door, will He be able to say to us, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You've finished the work I've asked you to do!"
